What Are The Types Of Cylinders?
Dec 11, 2022
A pneumatic actuator that converts the pressure energy of compressed gas into mechanical energy in pneumatic transmission. There are two types of cylinders: reciprocating linear motion and reciprocating oscillation. Cylinders for reciprocating linear motion can be divided into four types: single-acting, double-acting, diaphragm type and impact cylinder.
(1) Single-acting cylinder: only one end has a piston rod, which supplies air from the piston side to generate air pressure, and the air pressure pushes the piston to generate thrust and extend out, and returns by spring or dead weight.
(2) Double-acting cylinder: Alternately supply air from both sides of the piston to output force in one or two directions.
(3) Diaphragm cylinder: replace the piston with a diaphragm, output force in only one direction, and return with a spring. It has good sealing performance but short stroke.
(4) Impact cylinder: This is a new type of element. It converts the pressure energy of the compressed gas into the kinetic energy of the high-speed (10~20 m/s) movement of the piston, so as to do work. Impact cylinders added a middle cover with spouts and drains. The middle cover and piston divide the cylinder into three chambers: reservoir, head cavity and tail cavity. It is widely used in various operations such as blanking, punching, crushing and forming. The cylinder that swings back and forth is called a swing cylinder, the inner cavity is divided into two by the blades, and the air is supplied to the two chambers alternately, and the output shaft is oscillating with a swing angle of less than 280°. In addition, there are rotary cylinders, gas-liquid damping cylinders and stepper cylinders.
Cylinders are available in 2-stroke and 4-stroke, and 2-stroke cylinders are commonly used on motorcycles, chain saws, lawn mowers and other machines.
